tree

This picture is of an amazingly glorious tree in Dunedin that I just couldn’t stop looking at!! It reminded me of one of the attitudes of mindfulness, that is to notice things,  as if you are seeing them for the very first time.

Not only do we often take our surroundings for granted. The same counts for our ability to see and notice all the beauty around us!

So this week, as you go about your days, take a few moments to look at everything around you, as if you are seeing it all, for the first time.
You might discover things that you have never noticed before!
One of my students for exampe, was amazed by how many shades of green she could notice, when she was on the bus, taking in the views mindfully!

Have a great week!

Friends really are family!

☀️🌷🌷☀️ FREE MINDFULNESS WORKOUT ☀️🌷🌷☀️

Mindfulness helps in making friends with ourselves. It also makes you aware of how connected you are to others and to the world around you.
Did you know that best friends often look like each other, have similare beliefs, values and temperaments? It goes even further than that! Apparently you share about 1 percent of their genes, similar to you and your nephew or niece!! So friends really are family!

In busy times however, these very close friends might be overlooked more easily than others. As we know they will understand, and be there for us always. This week I want you to reach out to those friends you haven’t seen or spoken for too long. Make an effort and try to connect with three of them this week. I will too!

My 8-Week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction starts Thursday, I have a few spots left. I’m also doing a fun talk/workshop at the Peninsula Preschool tonight, looking forward to both!! Ask me anytime if you would like me to come to your workplace too!

Have the best week,

Monique

Feel good about you, rewire your brain!

✨✨✨󾀽 FREE MINDFULNESS WORKOUT 󾀽✨✨✨

Did you know your brain is wired to focus on negative things and to quickly forget about positive things? Because that’s what helping for survival!
However that makes us easily forget all the good things we do.
If you want to feel more postive about yourself, you need to train your brain to focus on the things that are good about you. This might feel a bit uneasy at first, but you will get good at it, really quickly!

So this week, every day, take a moment to pause and think about what was good about you so far today. And when you think about it, also bring back all the sensations about it. The sounds, the smells, what did you see, how did it feel. That is important to really make the change.

Have a great week!

ps I hope the people that planned to plant persil all around the Wellington Station, feel really good about themselves. Because I love it! Did you know??

# your problems, Weekly Mindfulness Workout

Good morning here is your Weekly Mindfulness Workout:

You might be inclined to solve problems by thinking about them over and over again. Sometimes this works.
And sometimes it doesn’t. There just isn’t always a perfect answer straight away, or there might never be a right answer. You just exhaust your brain, give yourself a headache, make yourself feel unhappy, anxious or upset. Often it is much better to acknowledge and accept that yes there is problem, for example something at work. Whenever thoughts about it, pop up in your mind, tell yourself ” there its is again, #work, I know” and relax yourself by focussing on your breathing for a bit and than do something else. Try it, it works!

Have the best week,
be happy!

Grateful in April

Free Weekly Mindfulness Train-Your-Brain Workout!

This week another group of awesome people are finishing my 8-week mindfulness for happiness course, and I’m very proud of their hard work and achievements! Let me know if you want to be in the next class!

Our brains are not wired to be on the lookout for all the good and positive things that are right here. Instead our brains are always looking for what is negative and what can go wrong, just protection for survival really. So we have to make an effort to rewire the brain by consciously training it to focus on the good stuff that is going on, so we can feel good!

So everyday this week, you are going to make an effort to remind yourself of three things, that are right here, that you are grateful for. No matter how small, it’s worth giving it some attention.

I’m joining the Grateful In April challenge. I hope you will too, you can signup on their webpage gratefulinapril.com or  like the facebook page.

Have the best week!

November already, weekly workout and more

Good morning all,

So November is here! I have a couple of busy weeks ahead of me with running the Mindfulness for Parents which is currently running in Petone and will be in Karori in three weeks on the Monday evenings. My 8-week classes in Tawa and Northland are in their third week, going along nicely! And on Saturday I was in the Petone Community House running the Mindfulness Zendoodle & Colouring Workshop. You can see what we’ve been up to here:

The workshop will be in the Karori Community Centre this Saturday the 7th!

So not only is it November, it is also Monday, so time for another weekly mindfulness workout. Here we go:

Stress is not healthy for you body and brain and general well being  This week I want you to try to become more aware of your stress levels.  You can visualise your stress level as a thermometer where the levels go up an down during the day. Or you can choose the traffic light and check in whether your levels are low (green), or high (red) or in between (orange). Or you can score your stress level on a 10 point scale, where 0 is no stress at all, and 10 is maximum stressed out. Just choose what works best for you.

If you find it hard to take time for this, or find it hard to rememer doing this, just set a timer on you phone for three different times a day, hang some sticky notes as a reminder, on your coffemaker for example, or write a little s on you hand as a reminder to notice your stress leel during the day. You can also choose to check in with yourself every time you drink or eat something. Keep track of your stress levels over this week, write them down and see how you are doing.

Have a good week,

Monique

Mindfulness Workout

Here’s your all free Mindfulness Workout for this week.
We practice this in my 8-week training, and classes for this all round mindfulness training start again next schoolterm.
Mindful eating is a good way to set yourself in the here and now, to give your brain a break and to enjoy your meals more. You can become more aware of feeling full and it can also make you eat more slow and even less so you don’t overeat.
To make this easy for you, try to eat and drink only the very first three bites of every meal, and the first three sips of every drink, mindfully. That means using all your senses, and eating or drinking as it’s the first time you’ve ever tried this!
Let me know how this works for you!

Petone Classes and more

This week I confirmed the mindfulness for busy parents classes at the Petone Comunity House as well as the Mindful doodle & colouring workshop. Very excited about new locations and working together with the local community centres!

Next schoolterm the 8-week training has been confirmed to start at the Norhtland Memorial centre for a second time. Lower Hutt and Linden still have to be confirmed but I’m optimistic about sorting this out the coming week.

I had a day a the Tawa Community Market and had some interest in flyers for all my classes which is great too.

Working at the moment on Mindfulness for seniors and extending even more in the corporate market, building my Easy Now Empire as my children call it 🙂
