FREE WEEKLY MINDFULNESS WORKOUT

Being back in the Netherlands I really noticed how the Dutch love to have opinions about everything! And they love to share that too 🙂

However, you do not always have to have an opinion about everything!! This is a natural habit of the brain, to be alert and figure it if there is a threat to us anywhere to be aware of!

So this week, try to be mindful about your daily doings, and try not to have an opinion. You are safe and free to just take it all in, notice, see, smell, feel, hear life just as it is.

Good luck! Let me know how this is goinf for you!!
I find it such a relief and freedom, to not have to have an opinion about everything, to feel free to just enjoy all the beautiful things around me and to just take it all in as it is.

Monique

Free Weekly Mindfulness Workout
Kia ora it is Monday again!!
Last week we finished the Creative Mindfulness course with mindful eating. That was fun and interesting!
It has totally put some people of crackers and some cookies lol!
Just a reminder that I have a few hours available for private mindfulness coaching. Just get in touch by pm or email and we can find a time that works for you!
WORKOUT starts here:
This week try to eat a bit more mindful for eating more of the good and less of the bad.
1. Before you start eating, rate our food on a scale from 1 to 10, how yummy do you think this is to eat?
2. Look at your food, smell and observe it.
3. Take a bite and wait a little before you start chewing, just noticing all you can taste in your mouth.
4. Slowly start chewing and only swallow when it is mostly gone anyway.
5. Rate that bite on a scale 1 till 10 again.
6. Repeat step 2 till 5 a few more times and decide when to stop eating.
Remembe you never have to finish your plate, your meal, you are allowed to discard of it anytime!
Have a great week,
aroha nui,
M

positive thinking

Good morning!!
Last week in the Creative Mindfulness Class ( you are welcome to our last meeting tomorrow in Tawa by the way) we did a mindfulness of thinking practice.
This is something you can easily try at home too.
The goal is to learn to notice the thoughts popping up in your mind (which is normal and happens all the time).
So no analysing, no judging, no liking, no disliking, just noticing every thought as it pops up in your mind, and disappears again.

When you become more aware of what is going on in your mind, you will get more control over your mind, and will be more able to decide what thoughts are helpful for you, and what thoughts are unhelpful. It will be easier to let those unhelpful thoughts pass by, by just noticing them and not giving them any more attention.

So this week, take a moment to find a nice quiet spot to sit, close your eyes, focus on your breathing for 10 breaths and than bring all your attention to your thinking. A couple of minutes to start with will be great!

Have an awesome week,
M

FREE WORKOUT STARTS HERE:

If you want to start practicing mindfulness, so you feel better, are more relaxed and worry less, you have to make it easy for yourself. And the easiest way is to take an activity that you are doing already, and make that a mindfulness exercise. So doing what you are doing anyway, just now doing it mindfully.

This can be brushing your teeth, rinsing your shampoo, emptying the dishwasher, having your morning cuppa, walking home from the station, or hanging the laundry outside. The last one is my favorite!!

Make it mindful by bringing your full attention to your senses in the here and now. What can you see, feel, hear, touch, smell right here, right now while you are doing what you are doing. Doestn’t have to take more than a few minutes!!

You will notice you get easily distracted by anything that pops up in your mind, and that doesn’t matter at all. Actually, that is super normal to happen!

Just notice you get distracted, and kindly bring your attention back to the activity you were doing mindfully.

Go on, try it this week!

Have a great week!

I had a fun week, teaching mindfulness at Tawa College to teenagers and at the community centre to a younger age group.
I explained to the teens about how thoughts, feelings and actions relate to each other in every day situations. When I asked them if that was already known information, I was so surprised that this basic understanding of our wellbeing, was missing!

So one more time:
Our daily life is a string of situations up on situations. In every situation there will be thoughts popping up in our minds, we feel things in our body, have emotions and we will do something. Or we will avoid doing something.
This determines whether we are on an upwards way, in our spiral of well-being, or on a downward way.

By becoming more mindful of ourselves, and how we react in daily situations, we will get more insight in why we feel the way we feel. And that gives us the opportunity to make changes to what we think, what we feel and what we do so we make sure we get on the way up in this spiral.

This week take some time, to have a good look at where you are on this spiral. At the bottom, half way up, or are you generally feeling all good, standing at the top of your spiral??

Can you think of changes you can make, to keep going upwards? Or to stop from going downwards?

Have a great week, remember to register for the 8 week mindfulness that starts next term, (the above is part of this course). This is a great course for teenagers too! And not just for women 🙂

Queen’s Birthday, and drama’s in London. So much happening in the world always. Makes you appreciate your normal day to day life even more.

This picture is my go to motivation for life. I found it once in the States and have carried it with my back to England, to the Netherlands and now it’s here in NZ.
It makes me smile, it motivates me to do stuff, and it makes me feel good.
With mindfulness you train your attention when you give it something to focus on. This can be your breathing, or your senses, or a mantra, a word, a sentence.

What is your best motivational quote? What has helped you? What words make you feel good? What always pulls you through??

Let me know what quotes have helped you, and I will post them out on the page this week!

I have a few things coming up, mindfulness for kids, creative mindfulness classes and the 8 week mindfulness based stress reduction starts after the holidays too. Don’t forget to register!!

Have a good week,
M

It was mother’s day yesterday, and as every Sunday I Skype my mum. We talked about how we both often feel amazed by time. We’re both feeling at least 20 years younger than we are!! So the good thing is that we both feel young at heart 💖

It does make me think though, are we not accepting that we are aging? Are we avoiding, looking the other way? I like to think we are not!
We are just chosing to live in the present, not thinking to much about what is ahead of us, and taking in every day with joy, not counting the days.

Every now and than we look back in awe and maybe sadness, realising that so many years flew by, just like that! And that’s ok too, it’s ok to have all different feelings about that, however not lingering there too long maybe.

It’s by acknowledging and accepting that change, time passing, and growing older is part of life, and inevitable, that helps us to move on again.

So this week take a moment to reflect on your life, the years that have been and your plans for the future. How does it make you feel? Can you accept that change, time passing and growing older is part of life? Are there things you want to do, or that you are going to do differently in the future?

Have a great week!

New Courses for Term 4 2016

For the next school term I will give two new courses that I’m very excited about!

18 October, Tuesday evening starts the Mindfulness Crochet for Calmness course.

Crochet is a great activity that settles your mind and is relaxing too. Crochet and the repetitive movements help the brain make more serotonin, which helps to decrease feelings of depression.

We will learn how to crochet and how to practice mindfulness, we will work on making a crochet mandala.

This is a special project for me, as we will make the mandala that is designed by Dutch crocheter Marinke who passed away because of her depression. I made the mandala (in the profile picture) last year for a project in the USA to raise awareness for depression.

This is a 4 week course and I hope to repeat it every term to enable you to work on more crochet projects.

On Tuesday evening at the Tawa Community Centre, $95, starts 18 October and includes materials and take home crochethook.

And after that fun, relaxing and creative course I will run the Mindful Eating course!

Starting 15 November on the Tuesday evenings. Learn to change your relationship with food into a happy one!

Use Mindfulness Based Eating Awareness Training (MBEAT) to regain the joy in eating, while empowering yourself to eat more of the good, and less of the bad!

This is a 4 week course, $95, looking forward to see you here!

What do YOU need???

🌷☀️🌷 FREE WEEKLY MINDFULNESS WORKOUT 🌷☀️🌷

At last holidays! My kids have been ready for weeks for this 🙂

I’m running the holiday workshop Wednesday, ages 6+. We will be colouring/doodling/making quotes and making letters for the Love Letters project.
8-Week Rewire your Brain for Happiness, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, starts in two weeks!! Looking forward to it already! Thank you for telling everybody about it, I love my ambassadors ❤

➡️This week, the only thing I want you to do, is to ask yourself as you get ready for the day, “What is it, that I need today?” Being mindful of you, how you are doing, and what you need to be physically and mentally healthy is super important! And put this on your agenda for the day. This can be going for a little walk, meeting up with a friend for coffee, or some down time with netflix, anything that is good for you will do!

Have a lovely week!
💜
What do you need today?

Unhelpful thinking, weekly mindfulness workout.

How time flies when you’re busy! Here’s another
<<<><><>>>Free Weekly Mindfulness Workout <<<><><>>>

This week builds upon last week’s workout. If you’re not feeling the way you want to feel, first you can calm yourself down by focussing on your breathing.
The next step you can take, is to notice your thinking. Often what we feel, is caused by what we think. When you learn to be more mindful of your thoughts, you will discover the thoughts and regular patterns of thinking that cause unwanted emotions. For example thoughts that start with “I should” of “I should not” give you stress. Or you might have other unhelpful thoughts.

So this week, try to get some insight in your unhelpful thoughts and thought patterns.

It is important to realise that when things happen, emotions will happen too. It’s normal to feel upset when sad things happen! That’s when you need comforting.

Have a great week!

Like the picture? Lovely gift from a friend! Who are you going to spoil this week?
